Nomads of the Seas Ultimate Fly Fishing program is, without a doubt, an experience full of adventures and surprises that will captivate the hearts of all courageous explorers that go deep into this adventure. Reaching places where man has never been before, fishing in places that haven’t suffered human alterations, pollution or any kind of intervention other than that of Mother Nature, is the privilege that our guests will experience with Nomads of the Seas and its Ultimate Fly Fishing program.

To keep its promise, Nomads of the Seas relies on its cutting edge aero-maritime transport system consisting of a Bell 407 helicopter, 6 jet-boats, a Hurricane 920 RIB zodiac, and other lesser watercrafts such as zodiacs and catacrafts. Meanwhile, 36 McKenzie boats and 12 jetskiffs are placed in strategic spots of the Patagonia, readily available for fishing trips in deeper territory. This equipment allows us to penetrate into the most secluded rivers, lagoons and mountains, some of them lying untouched and unseen, waiting to be discovered.

In Ultimate Fly-Fishing, the angler may become part of a scouting team, which adds a whole new dimension to each expedition. There is no such thing as being bound to a specific location; groups are free to explore privileged sites, including some that have rarely, if ever, seen a fishing line. Due to these conditions, trophy catches are not hard to find at Nomads.

It is being able to fish at any spot, regardless of its accessibility, without having to stay in any specific place; with all the flexibility to deal with different weather and water conditions, and fluctuating fish behaviors.

Not only is it fun being there, but just as exciting getting there; knowing you are part of an exploration team who has the privilege of being the first humans to fly fish a unique untouched spot.

Whether gliding through the air, searching for new rivers or lakes or skimming across the shallow and bending rivers, you will feel the vastness and remoteness of the territory like no one before.

With the assistance of our guides and pilots you will encounter a fisherman's dream: shallow and deep rivers, white waters, tight bends, creeks, lakes, lagoons, mountains, volcanoes, and many confined sites that are almost inaccessible without the proper training, equipment and experience.

Getting used to all this adventure will take you some time and you may be overwhelmed on many occasions by the breathtaking scenery, so many miles of daily fishing, so many different places in only one day, your adrenalin rushing with the excitement of transportation, whether by air, water, or both, in the same day. You will become spoiled with all these activities, you will want to continue fishing for hours, and most surely all of our guides will be hearing you repeat once and again, "ONE MORE CATCH!"

Specific fishing spots are selected in every trip. Weather, water conditions, fish behavior, access difficulties at any given time are all part of our operational considerations and vary with every trip.

With over 250 million acres of impressive geography, Patagonia still remains as one of the rare corners on the planet yet to be discovered keeping its invaluable treasures and exquisite biodiversity for the few who venture to discover and appreciate them.

This voyage to the central-southern and southern areas of Chilean Patagonia covers over 750 kilometers/405 nautical miles from the bay of Puerto Montt (latitude 41ºS and longitude 72°W) to the Taitao peninsula (latitude 46°S and longitude 73°W).

Our unique journey through the hidden Patagonia area enlightens you with multiple streams, creeks, glaciers, volcanoes, jungle forests, rivers, lagoons and lakes; endless and unexplored spots yet to be discovered in this geological mosaic. This gifted land offers a superb combination of blending glaciers, snowcapped peaks, summits and volcanoes of the southern Andes with luxuriant cold jungle forest.

Daily itinerary
Each day aboard Atmosphere is unique and different. The specific programs are defined between 12 and 24 hours in advance, so that fishing and wildlife expeditions can take into account immediate climatic conditions and other relevant factors such as cetacean location, fish behavior and tides among others. Day by day, routes are studied and defined so there is no such a specific track; we tailor it in order to provide the very best.

Weather
Temperatures in Patagonia are not extremely low due to the influence of the sea and the action of the winds; hence, the coldest months are rarely below 4º C / 39° F. Conversely, on warmer days thermometers may rise up to 20º C / 68° F; an actual proof of how changeable weather in Patagonia may be. With a proper dressing, this fact should not get in the way of experiencing the Nomadic adventure.

After being introduced in Chile in the late 19th century, salmonids found exceptional conditions to settle and reproduce over time in the grandeur of the infinite, pristine and fertile streams, rivers, lagoons and lakes of this sector of Chile. Nowadays, resident, coastal and anadromous varieties of Rainbow and Brown Trout, along with Brook Trout, attain abundance in these waters and a size that is difficult for their congeners in the northern hemisphere to beat. The same occurs with Silver and King Salmon and occasionally with Atlantic Salmon. The development of all these salmonids is not only confined to continental waters, but they also live in those estuaries, freshets and river mouths of infinite fjords, inlets and channels that make up this South Pacific Ocean. Some native species like the Robalo, Bonito and Sierra (endemic Barracuda type), which can offer large challenges for fly-fishing, add value to the infinite spectrum of possibilities in the area.

It is possible to practice fly fishing and spinning in the region. Here you will find trouts and salmons of different sizes:

Brown Trout. One of the most popular Salmonidae, but very evasive, unpredictable, aggressive, and enormously cunning, which makes it tough to catch. The Brown Trout weighs from 1 to 10 pounds.

The Brook Trout. Very beautiful and voracious, and changes its color according to the food it eats. The Brook Trout weighs from 3 ounces to over 5 pounds.

The Steelhead Trout. Is the sea-going cousin of rainbow trout and is known for putting up a hard fight. The average length of a steelhead trout is 20-30 inches. Is most commonly found in the Pacific Ocean. The life expectancy of the steelhead trout is generally about 6-8 years. The Steelhead Trout weighs up to 8 pounds.

Sea Run Brown Trout. The back of the sea-run brown trout has a color variation of greens and the sides will transition to yellow/brown. It prefers water temperatures that are considered too warm for most other trout. It rarely lives longer than 8 years and weighs from 3 to 25 pounds.

Land & Locked Salmon. Native of Lake Sebago, was introduced at the beginning of the century into numerous environments. It is silver colored, with blue head and back, black spots on the flanks and dark dorsal fins with blue stripes. It may weigh from 1 to 8 pounds.

Chinook. Has a robust body, it is conic with a slightly sharp and pointed head in young females and males. Adult reproductive males have a bigger head, long mouth, with both tips bent inwards as a hook, with strong teeth. In natural conditions, its size may reach 80 centimeters long. Chinook Salmon weigh from 10 to 50 pounds.

If you decide to visit us, we will provide you a complete list of recommendations to help you make your trip a pleasant one. To begin with, we have a complete set of suggested Fly Patterns to ease your fishing needs.

Fishing Equipment

Fishing rods: Since there are medium and large size rivers in the region, we strongly recommend you to bring the following rods: number 5 to 7 for trouts and number 8 for salmons.

Lines: WF sinking tip or sinking tip type III and IV. If you fish with Teeny lines, we recommend T130 to T200. For situations in which floating lines are needed, WF are the best choice, because weather conditions may be windy most of the time.

Waders: For the beginning and end of the season, we recommend the neoprene 3mm to 5mm. During January, February and March is better to use breathable suits.

Clothes for the trip: We recommend to bring clothes for warm and cold days, and for rainy days as well, like waterproof jackets or windproof fleeces .

Sun block protection: FPS 60 and sun glasses.
Explorers, accompanied by a highly specialized guide team, can see their ecotourism journeys converted in incredible and gratifying moments of deep research and reflection.

This program delivers each guest a piece of Patagonia’s natural beauty and considers bird and whale watching which include nature photography as one of the main activities, and outdoors expeditions such as rafting, trekking (including a helicopter airlift to specific areas of interest), horseback riding, jet-boating excursions, air-borne sightseeing, and river and sea kayaking.

Our guests will be permanently assisted by our specialized expedition team and guides during the program and related activities. Our human team onboard has many and successful years of experience within the area and related activities, which include fly-fishing, ecotourism and environmental interpretation guides and deep and intimate knowledge of our operation.

Moreover, striving for excellence, we have boosted the development of their skills and competence in the professional and personal area by means of an intensive initial seven-month training program and subsequent ongoing multidisciplinary coaching. This covers various aspects of knowledge in a theoretical, practical and entertaining way. Such training includes customer service, hospitality and catering, casting and presentation, reading the water, salmonid & marine biology, ecotourism, biogeography, ecology, zoology, ornithology, cetology, aquatic entomology, botany, regional history, archaeology, social anthropology, astronomy, photography, English, first aids, survival, rescue and safety, navigation and sailing, and specialized ship mechanics, besides an ongoing program of physical training.

Exploratory missions to remote and virgin territories, whether by helicopter, jet boats, ribs, Zodiacs or simply by foot, require exceptional awareness of the terrain and general conditions, and above all, a professional guiding service. Our guides’ expertise and commitment to safe and quality services is their career core. A daily assessment - through data collection, experience and observation - will be thoroughly analyzed by our guides and entire team before every daily departure.

Our operation will count with satellite communications capability amongst all parties and the MotherShip. This is essential for conducting well-coordinated operations in order to record all possible deviations from our originally planned missions before departure, and in the event of any emergencies requiring assistance.

An operation of excellence is only possible with a team of excellence; that is how we understand it at Nomads of the Seas.

Once you get there, you board our helicopter and fly to discover a totally pristine lagoon nested atop one of the many summits of the Andes Mountains. Upon setting foot on land, teams once again contend against each other, this time for the honor of capturing the best photograph of a native bird species... Now stop dreaming and take a look at The Ultimate Conquest, a Nomads of the Seas adventure and a program featuring world-class service and infrastructure that will become a breakthrough in incentive trips. Ultimately, a challenge and an experience that every participant will treasure as a personal landmark.

Nomads of the Seas® has designed an array of activities for explorers interested in getting in touch with the natural beauty of Patagonia in a more active way.

The invitation is to get to know the magnificent surroundings while enjoying the excitement of jet-boating or rafting, the charm of kayaking or trekking, or the magical paced wonder of horseback-riding.

Through a selection of activities both physically and spiritually engaging, our guests will appreciate and explore the breathtaking seashore and surrounding rivers, forests and mountains. To embark in this adventure all you need is eagerness and the joy of discovering unexplored territory as seen from a new perspective, the Nomads perspective.

Jet-Boating
Our jet-boating expeditions are the perfect combination of speed and safety. Aboard one of our six jet boats, specially designed for Nomads of the Seas®, our guests will experience unforgettable journeys through beautiful rivers and forests.

Jet-boating has proved to be one of the most exciting features of our operation, since it appeals to the speed fascination that every adventurer carries within. Our guests will take home lasting memories of the sheer exhilaration of soaring upriver, the wind brushing past, all amidst astonishing beauty.Up

Kayaking
Patagonian rivers, fjords and the coastline provide natural navigation routes for our kayaking activities. True kayakers know that this sport offers unique contact with the landscape. While the paddle softly submerges in the flowing current, barely touching the leaves that hang from the trees lining the banks, kayakers get to fully admire the flora and fauna at short range.

During your trip with Nomads, kayaking will be available in three different formats: gently paddling down soft current rivers, navigating through different levels of white waters, or cruising the maritime coastline admiring the incredible oceanic wildlife. Up

Rafting
Our rafting program includes a flight on our Bell 407 helicopter into Patagonia’s mountains, to rivers especially chosen by Nomads of the Seas® for an unforgettable whitewater adventure. Rafters get the chance to tackle white waters, from mild to class III rapids, always under our high security standards.Up

Trekking
If our guests want to take in every inch of this amazing ecosystem, Nomads of the Seas® will transport them by jet-boat or helicopter to remote mountain locations, where our experienced guides have selected various day routes. Trekkers will serpent their way through the astonishing rainy forest and its plethora of endemic flowers, centennial trees, leafy bushes and the endless species of ferns, fungi, algae and lichens.

Some of the sites where we make landfall offer the possibility of enjoying the steam and high temperatures of rustic hot springs, or the impressive background with its majestic glaciers and volcanoes.Up

Horseback-Riding
Emulating the first Patagonia settlers, who opened up new trails across untamed territory some 200 years ago, we have designed horseback riding trails through forests, hills and mountains of extraordinary beauty.

Sorting this beautiful and challenging domain, riders will reach untouched sites, blessed with privileged views that grant moments of peaceful contemplation.

Atmosphere’s Grand-Class® cuisine was created to reach and be enjoyed everywhere. It does not matter if we are descending rivers, hiking near a towering glacier or horseback riding down the coastline, your on-site gourmet packed lunch will be available, exquisite, invigorating and tasting as if just prepared.Up

Panoramic Flights
One of the unforgettable memories that our guests will take home with them are the panoramic views of Patagonia’s geographic territory, as seen from above. On board the Bell 407 helicopter, guests will be able to fly across Patagonia, from the mountains to the sea, enjoying fantastic views while listening to a perfectly selected soundtrack.Up

Nomads of the Seas® fosters an interesting and varied photography program, using digital and traditional film format.

Outings are guided by an environmental analyst with a solid background in digital and analogous photography, as well as photographic composition. These excursions may involve the use of watercrafts or inland trekking.

Some of the landscapes waiting to be immortalized are eternal snows and glaciers, some of the Andes most amazing mountains; volcanoes, bays, channels and fjords; the coastal strip and its impressive tidal variation, as well as the exuberant Magellanic sub polar forests.

You will also have the chance to photograph enormous cetaceans and other sea mammals such as sea lions, and two otter species.

Patrimonial photography is yet another interesting venue to explore. Objects to focus on include inhabited fishermen villages and archaeological sites holding vestiges of an extinct culture: the Chonos, true nomads of the seas, who once dwelled canoeing upon these waters.

Macro-photography can also be a very interesting option. Targets range from endemic land invertebrates to flowers - this area harbors some very rare species of orchids-, to those spectacular details of the sub polar forest that often go unnoticed.

Chile is home to approximately 450 species of birds, many of them endemic. Contrary to what happens in tropical areas, where the abundance and diversity of birds make them popular bird watching destinations even if sightings are difficult, Nomads of the Seas offers a geographic setting that makes identification, observation and graphic recording of the varied birdlife an easy and user friendly activity.

This program considers two key elements that guarantee the success of our bird-watching outings: a sophisticated aero-maritime transportation system that allows access to difficult, untouched, locations and the guidance of thoroughly trained professionals who are familiar with the region and its bird species.

Commonly Seen Species
The whole trip affords frequent and easy sightings of unique and interesting seabirds: albatrosses, petrels, fulmars, seagulls, pelicans, kelp geese, and cormorants, among many others, plus two species of penguins: Humboldt and Magellan.

In estuary and river areas, wading birds such as herons, ibises, black-crowned night herons, as well as a number of cinclodes, are a common sight.

Also in the vicinity of rivers, as well as in lake areas and near wetlands, some of the species that make themselves seen include whistling ducks, dabbling ducks, diving ducks, false geese, a couple of swan species and the spectacular Chilean kingfisher.

Deeper inside the dense and humid southern jungle, some of the species that come into sight are woodpeckers, hummingbirds, parrots and the Chilean pigeon. These species live alongside a series of furnarids, a couple of rhinocryptidae, the black-throated huet-huet and the loud-singing Chucao.

Species of finches, Icteriidae and Emperizidae complete this forest bird symphony. Among the latter, one of the most amazing species is the delicate-looking Patagonian sierra finch, dressed in its eye-catching orange and yellow tailcoat.

The region is also home to a group of small and large prey birds belonging to the falcon and owl families. Especially noteworthy are the great horned owl and the condor, which mostly inhabits highlands.
