Area Info
Our fishing area for the 2008/2009 season will be between Puerto Montt and Laguna San Rafael. However, sometimes on special circumstances we may depart from other possible ports located in the Chilean Patagonia such as Hornopiren, Chaiten, Puerto Chacabuco, Puerto Natales or Punta renas. These cases will be informed in advance. This part of the country was formed by the movement of terrestrial plates during the long glacial periods. Erosion was so intense that when glaciers started melting, a great portion of the ground sunk below sea level; and with the entrance of water the channels and fjords were formed.
In this area, as opposed to the rest of the country, the Andes limit with the Pacific Ocean forming the Archipiélago Insular and the Chilean territory extends behind the Andes.
The main rivers running through this area are the Futaleufú, Palena, Cisnes, Simpson, Baker and Pascua.
The first town founded in this area was Balmaceda in 1917, the police arrived in 1920, and the first important roads were built in 1936.
Darwin defined this area as a green desert.
Imagine a trip that takes you with exceptional comfort along gulfs, fjords, inlets, channels, estuaries, coastline, islands and islets of the central-southern and southern sector of Chilean Patagonia, covering over 750 kilometers/405 nautical miles from the bay of Puerto Montt (latitude 41°28' S and longitude 72°56' W) to the Taitao peninsula (latitude 46°41' S and longitude 73°57' W).
This is a region where multiple streams, creeks, rivers, lagoons and lakes, and endless and unexplored fishing spots can be discovered; and where most trout and salmon have never seen an artificial fly.
This is a plentiful area of blending glaciers, snowcapped peaks, summits and volcanoes of the southern Andes with luxuriant cold jungle forests, marvelous pure streams, creeks, rivers, lagoons and lakes among natural parks, reserves and monuments.
